The Last of the Summer Wine

I have been a little remiss with my blog updates over the last couple of months, so please forgive the condensing of two months into one post. Where has the Summer gone, although upon reflection it felt at times that Summer never really happened this year with numerous events plagued with high winds and miserable weather. Firle Vintage in August was one such disaster with high winds which meant that many stall holders lost £1000s of stock, see the photo gallery for a great shot of the chaos left onsite after what felt like a tornado rolled through. Fortunately for Pitstop we had taken the advice of our good neighbour Ginger Rookes a seasoned street food trader and we took our gazebos down and our equipment home, so when the site reopened on Sunday we were able to set up and serve again; after spending a relaxing Saturday drinking beer at home with our feet up. The next weekend we were at Lancing Beach near Worthing and the wind was again quite troublesome leading us to call off our Sunday involvement since it was impossible to cook food safely. But then Hastings Pride weekend arrived, and the weather changed, it was glorious and we celebrated in style.

September saw us attempt numerous double bookings beginning with St Leonards market and Bexhill Festival of the Sea set ups. Bexhill Festival of the Sea was the perfect testing ground for our this years fish menu which focused entirely on showcasing Hastings fish. The Brazilian style plaice balls and the spicy mackerel empanadas were delicious, whilst the lime polenta plaice with loaded cassava fries went down a treat. Next weekend we were double booked once more at Hastings Steampunk and Hastings Seafood and Wine Festival. Whilst Hastings Steampunk was on the quiet side, Hastings Seafood and Wine Festival was as usual packed. We even managed to get our photos in the local newspaper. Pitstop went on tour to Southdowns Folk Festival next, but again the weather was not on our side and we decided against returning for the Sunday since a serious downpour was predicted. The final weekend in September was also grim weather wise and our involvement in two events was unfortunately cancelled. Fingers crossed for better weather next year!
